As a surgeon of many years of experience, I wanted to start this blog to address the questions, worries and common misconceptions that patients may have about breast surgery.
Some of you may wonder what justifies my writing on this topic; I am a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Ireland who has performed thousands of surgical procedures – and so have thousands of stories to draw experience from. It is unlikely that any of your thoughts or apprehensions about surgery I have not encountered before, but I would love to hear from all of you. This blog is a place, perhaps, for you to relieve your worries about surgery, or a place where I can pass on my learning to those keen to know.
I will regularly be writing a series of articles (time-permitting) with the aim of giving you advice and to raise patients’ awareness, as well as answering and explaining the common problems within my surgical special interests.
